  7. Background

  9. UserLand Software is the developer and publisher of the UserLand Frontier scripting system. Frontier 1.0 was released in January 1992, Frontier 2.0 in October 1992, and with the current version being 3.0.3 available for both 68K and PowerMacintosh.

  11. Frontier scripts can control the Macintosh operating system, file system, networks and applications that support System 7 Apple Events.

  13. Aladdin Systems and UserLand Software have been working collaboratively on making StuffIt and Frontier compatible. This means that you can automate StuffIt with Frontier scripts, and integrate its capabilities with other Apple Event-aware applications.

  15. More information about scripting with Frontier is available by downloading INFO.KIT from Library 8 at GO USERLAND on CompuServe, or at the top level of the UserLand Discussion Board on AppleLink. The remainder of these notes are for people who already have Frontier.

  18. How to Install

  20. Be sure Frontier is running, then double-click on the StuffIt.Frontier icon in the Finder. A script runs, installing a new StuffIt application table and a shared menu for StuffIt in your Frontier database.

  22. After importing the install file, open the Quick Script window in Frontier and enter:
  23. StuffIt.launch () and then press the Enter key. You will be asked to locate your copy of StuffIt. The program launches. Save changes in the Frontier object database by pressing cmd-S. The next time you launch StuffIt from Frontier it will remember where to launch it from.

  25. Check out the StuffIt.examples table for ideas on writing Frontier scripts that work with StuffIt. To open the table, press cmd-J and enter:

Since StuffIt Deluxe and StuffIt Lite share the same Finder information, it is not possible to have different table for each.   As such, some of the ﾒverbsﾓ in the StuffIt table are only usable in StuffIt Deluxe ﾑ ﾒDoScriptﾓ, ﾓStackWindowsﾓ, ﾒTileWindowsﾓ, and ﾒViewﾓ.  The ﾒExpandZIPﾓ example will also not work as is since StuffIt Lite does not include the UnZIP Translator, but the example is still useful with other translators.

  30. Also note that until StuffIt Lite is registered only a small subset of the events are available ﾑ ﾒOpenﾓ, ﾒCloseﾓ, ﾒPrintﾓ, ﾒQuitﾓ, ﾒStuffﾓ and ﾒUnStuffﾓ.
